Welcome to our happy place
The Crooked Lighthouse is a cozy getaway nestled in an idyllic part of Southwest Michigan.

Our Story
Owned by a family of four originally from Michigan & Ohio but now living in Texas. It has long been our dream to have a getaway near Lake Michigan to escape the hot Texas summers. In 2025 our dream became reality.
We want to share the joy the home brings us...with you--our friends and family.
And once you have stayed, just maybe we will let you in on where our house gets its name (hint: it is NOT from the nearby New Buffalo lighthouse pictured here).

FAQs
Where is it located?
How many bedrooms?
There are three cozy bedrooms, perfect for families or groups up to eight guests.
What special features exist?
Plenty, but to name a few, the house offers a large backyard, multiple outdoor decks, an expansive screened patio, a firepit, a fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen.
Will we see wildlife?
Unfortunately, pets are not allowed, to keep the space allergy-friendly**. One of the owners has a serious allergy to dogs and cats (and horses and bunnies), so no animals are allowed on the property.
**Please do not ask, as exceptions will not be granted.
Nearby attractions?
Absolutely! There are endless things to in the area, from our favorite local bakeries and coffeeshops (including Black Currant Bakehouse and Neon Moon, both within walking distance) and a long list of excellent restaurants, wineries & breweries (so many between Michigan City, Indiana, and St. Joseph, Michigan) to outdoor activities galore (swimming at the many white sand public beaches on Lake Michigan, hiking to the top at Warren Dunes State Park, kayaking and fishing on the Galien River, to name a few). The high season offers plenty of farmers markets, fruit/berry/grape picking and outdoor concerts and festivals. And for those into competitive activities, there are golf courses, go-cart racing, and even a couple of casinos within driving distance!
[We are compiling a list of our favorite local places, which we will be happy to share with you ahead of your stay. But to those who have already asked, our house is a ~10 minute walk to "downtown" Union Pier, where you will find the aforementioned Black Currant Bakehouse for pastries and Neon Moon Gelato for coffee and ice cream, as well as Milda's for a quick sandwich, Union Pier Market for some beer, wine or groceries, and Union Pier Social for a proper sit down restaurant with a bar and often times a band playing. As for the white sand beaches, Town Line Beach is the closest at about 20-25 minute walk or a very short drive. But there is also Cherry Beach and New Buffalo Beach easy drives away, and further out you will hit Warren Dunes State Park's beach, Silver Beach and in Indiana, Long Beach.]
Our house is on a quiet street in Union Pier, Michigan, a beautiful destination 90 minutes from Chicago.
As a reminder for those visiting from the Central Time Zone, once you cross over the border from Indiana into Southwest Michigan, you will be in the Eastern Time Zone. Be sure to make your travel plans with that in mind.
Are pets allowed?
Though we cannot promise you will catch a glimpse, deer and bunnies are a common sight. We have even seen wild turkeys and a family of geese!
Is smoking allowed?
While we recognize neighboring New Buffalo has become the cannabis capital of the Midwest, smoking of any kind (including tobacco & non-tobacco cigarettes, cigars and vapes) is never allowed in the house, which includes the screened patio. Please refrain from smoking on the front porch and rear decks as well. And if you do choose to smoke in the backyard or around the fire pit, be sure to do so safely, ensuring you have extinguished all flames completely.
